Not much new
When I got my paperwork back there were just a few things still missing. A required online class called Reasonable and Prudent Parenting. That talks about how I am to "co parent" with the government and the bio parents. That was good to learn actually. Think of it this way, if you were the bio parent and your kids were being parented by someone else, you would still want to be involved in things like: after school activities like sports, getting a part time job, getting drivers license, going out of town/state/country on vacation, etc, etc. I am sure some of you are thinking "yea well they lost that right when they did what they did to get their child taken away". True, but they are still the parents, that will not change until they terminate their parental rights. So while in foster care there are a lot of things I can't just do with the child...everything has to be approved. Everything! Even hair cuts!
At any rate, I passed that test and again...it was really good to learn all of that. I wasn't really sure how much Ii could or couldn't do without approval, now it is a little more clear. So that certification is done.
I have my CPR class scheduled for May 1st and once that is done, full speed ahead for the home study. I am waiting to hear if we can go ahead and get that scheduled for May or if we actually need to wait until certification is in hand until they even schedule it. It sounds like that process should only take a couple weeks, once they come out.
There are things around the house that will need to be done in order for them to reinspect the house after the initial visit. Things like, kid proof stuff; outlet covers, cabinet covers, I need a railing on my patio. So the pressure will be on after their visit to get that stuff done. My friends are amazing, they have been going through all their old stuff and offering to give me what they aren't using anymore in regards to the kid proofing stuff. Also they are having a kid shower for me which will be amazing! The insight and gifts from other parents and even friends that aren't parents, that will be a huge blessing.
So onward I move! One step at a time!
